It all started one snowy January evening in central Illinois with Jake sitting in his apartment, strumming his guitar and looking out the window and muttering for the umpteenth time- "Jake, you gotta put this Buffett band together." That next day, Jake put flyers in all of the music stores in town seeking the perfect band. And he got exactly one response - from Mike Miller. The two toiled as a "duo," touting themselves as "The Captain and the Kid" (we're still not sure which was which). After a couple of months, the band miraculously started to form, as Andy and Howie joined. The foundation was almost set; and after three drummers (two of which spontaneously combusted on stage and one choked on vomit - we're not really sure whose...), Larry joined. The foundation was now set - time to conquer the world.
The Boat Drunks
is a full featured 'tribute' band, authentically and energetically replicating only the music of Jimmy Buffett. We know over 90 Buffett songs as well as 20 "Buffett-style" originals. The Boat Drunks have been together for 7 years, originally only playing in and around central Illinois. We are primarily a weekend-only band, our band members range in age from 32-50 years old, and we all have extensive playing and performing credentials. Some of our accomplishments:
- We have a loyal following amongst Parrothead Clubs across the country, many of whom plan weekends around our schedule.
- We have two CDs of original material that are being played on Radio Margaritaville, both online at www.radiomargaritaville.com and Sirius Satellite Radio Channel 31. Our second release,
Wahine Man, was released by the legendary rock band Little Feat's record label - Hot Tomato Records. Several cuts feature members of Little Feat, as well as Jimmy's Coral Reefer Band.
- We have played in 12 states, a cruise to three US territories, and two countries. We have headlined at Jimmy's Margartaville Cafés in Key West and New Orleans. We have also been invited to play for the national parrothead club's convention in Key West for five consecutive years, as well as numerous other parrothead club fundraisers and functions.
- We have shared the stage with Bill Payne, Sam Clayton, and Paul Barrère (all members of Little Feat), and Mac McAnally, Robert Greenidge, Doyle Grisham, Michael Utley, T.C. Mitchell, and Amy Lee (all members of Jimmy's Coral Reefer Band).
- We have recently been contacted to help "rollout" Jimmy's new beer, Landshark Lager.
